CANARIE strengthens Canadian leadership in science and technology by delivering digital infrastructure to support world-class research that directly benefits all Canadians.
Twelve provincial and territorial network partners, together with CANARIE, collectively form Canada’s National Research and Education Network (NREN). Canadians at universities, colleges, research institutes, hospitals, and government laboratories rely on this ultra high-speed network to collaborate in data-intensive, cutting edge research and innovation within Canada and with colleagues in over 100 countries.
Beyond the network, CANARIE funds and promotes reusable research software tools to accelerate scientific discovery. CANARIE also supports Research Data Canada as it leads national research data management initiatives, and through the Canadian Access Federation, provides identity management services that enable secure, ubiquitous connectivity and content access to the academic community. To boost commercialization in Canada’s technology sector, CANARIE offers cloud resources to startups through its DAIR service, and links a powerful community of public and private sector partners in the Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks (CENGN).

Research Data Canada (RDC) is a stakeholder-driven and supported organization dedicated to improving the management of research data in Canada. No single institution can address the challenges of managing this data alone. RDC’s role is to bring together key stakeholders to develop strategy, facilitate communication and partnerships, promote education and training, measure progress, and bring attention to gaps. RDC also acts as single point of contact for Canada with international initiatives, ensuring engagement with appropriate stakeholders.
RDC Vision: Canadians have access to national and international collections of publicly funded research data.
RDC Mission: Work with stakeholders to ensure research data is re-usable in support of innovation that benefits all Canadians.
The role of the RDC Intern is, by understanding the context of RDC in the broader stakeholder community, to work with the Executive Director and act on the Vision and Mission of the organization to maximize the impact of RDC activities and outputs.
Functions & Responsibilities
The duties of the RDC Intern will include:
- Assisting with preparation of material and development of outputs for RDC Committees and Working Groups
- Socializing and promoting RDC outputs
- Contributing to RDC communications, such as the Newsletter, Blogs, Webinars, and Twitter
- Communicating with RDC stakeholders.
The position requires the following skills and academic requirements:
- Recent graduate from a M.L.I.S., data science or equivalent program
- Advanced research, writing and editing skills
- Knowledge of research data management issues and solutions
- Experience with standard office software, and a variety of Internet tools.
- Detailed understanding of the research process and research data lifecycle is highly desirable.
